Title: CS7 Charter for New Vision Academy

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the Charter for New Vision Academy, effective April 21, 2005, through June 30, 2008.

Description:

Section 1002.33, Florida Statutes (2003), authorizes Charter Schools as part of the state's program of public education.

The mission of New Vision Academy is one of teacher and student empowerment.  Their goal is to create a standard of educational excellence, which will promote lifelong learning and equip all students with the skills necessary to succeed on an educational level and prepare them to become productive and responsible citizens.  They believe in addressing the child through a multi-sensory approach to learning.  This concept will strengthen each child's ability to reach his/her maximum potential, through an educational curriculum that is designed to meet individual needs.

New Vision Academy will serve students in pre-kindergrten through fifth grade.   Total projected enrollment is 356.

ESE Pre-kindergarten is estimated at 2 classes with eighteen students each.
Kindergarten is estimated at three classes with twenty students each.
First grade is estimated at three classes with twenty-two students each.
Second grade is estimated at two classes with twenty-five students each.
Fourth grade is estimated at two classes with twenty-five students each.
Fifth grade is estimated at one class with twenty-five students.

The Palm Beach County School Board approved the original application for New Vision Academy on February 16, 2005.

Pursuant to Florida Statute 1002.33, the terms and conditions for the operation of the Charter School shall be set forth by the District and the applicant in a written contractual agreement called a Charter.  New Vision Academy has been reviewed and approved by the appropriate District departments and the Governing Board of the Charter School.

Due to the large number of pages, a copy of the Charter is on file in the Board Minutes Office for review.

Financial Impact:
Each Charter School will receive 95% of the funded FTE generated by up to 500 students. The District will retain 5% of the FTE, up to 500 students, as per Florida Statute.
