Title: CLS1-Jupiter High School's Field Trip to Spain and France

Recommendation:
Recommend that the School Board approve an educational field trip for the Jupiter High School Foreign Language students to travel to Spain and France, March 18, 2006 through March 26, 2006.

Description:

This group of 18 students (5 boys and 13 girls) will be chaperoned by one (1) school board employee and  three (3) parents.  The group will depart on Saturday, March 18, 2006 from Miami International Airport, and return on Sunday, March 26, 2006.  Since this trip will be during Spring Break, no participating student will miss any school.  The group will also be accompanied by a representative of the tour company, EF Educational Tours, who will remain with the group throughout the trip.

The trip will provide these students with the opportunity to see and experience, first hand, the culture and language they are studying, enhancing their knowledge of history, geography, social studies, and the arts and sciences.  They, in turn, will be cultural ambassadors abroad.  The students and their teachers will be encouraged to provide coordinating curricula for the trip.

The cost of the trip, per participant, is $1728.00.  This includes all travel costs, meals, accommodations, and attraction entrance fees.  The students are able to raise funds for the trip through a variety of fundraisers.

The benefits to the District include:

  • The good will generated by the interaction of the students with the people of other nations.
  • The knowledge and appreciation, gained by the students, of the Spanish and French cultures.  This experience will enrich their environment, making them more responsible, thinking, literate, self-motivated, and career-directed members of this school district.
  • Representation of the quality of programs offered by Palm Beach County Schools and the caliber of students who attend this District.

Financial Impact:
All funds will be raised through fundraisers or parent contributions so there is no cost to the District.
