NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE ADOPTION & PUBLIC HEARING

RULE TITLE: School Advisory Councils.

RULE NUMBER: Policy 2.09.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To establish standards and procedures for school advisory councils and school improvement plans.

SUMMARY: This revision requires middle and junior-high schools to include student representation on their school advisory councils. The Policy is also being updated to include recent legislative requirements, primarily concerning the following topics in the school improvement plan: a goal concerning student health and fitness, including physical fitness, parental information on student health and fitness, and indoor environmental air quality; and the rigorous reading requirements for any middle school with fewer than 75 percent of its students reading at or above grade level.

Any person who wishes to provide information regarding a statement of estimated regulatory costs, or to provide a proposal for a lower cost regulatory alternative, must do so in writing within 21 days of the publication of this Notice.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: Adoption of the proposed rule is anticipated to be considered at the School Board's Special Meeting on Policies on July 13, 2005, anticipated to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla. AGENDA: A copy of the agenda will be available by July 6 on the District's Web site.
