NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE DEVELOPMENT & PUBLIC HEARING

RULE TITLE: Administration of Student Medication/Treatment.

RULE NUMBER: Policy 5.321.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Student medication and treatments, including use of epinephrine auto-injectors pursuant to Fla. Stat § 1002.20(3)(i).

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: This revision would conform to a statutory amendment permitting students who have experienced or are at risk for experiencing life-threatening allergic reactions, to retain an epinephrine auto-injector and self-administer epinephrine by auto-injector (while in school, participating in school sponsored activities, or in transit to or from school or school-sponsored activities) if they have provided the school with written approval from the custodial parent/guardian and physician. The revision would also include minor updates and clarifications to the existing text.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: Development of the proposed rule is anticipated to be considered at the School Board's Special Meeting on Policies on July 26, 2006, anticipated to begin at 2:15 p.m. in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla. AGENDA: A copy of the agenda will be available by July 19 on the District's Web site. Pursuant to the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, any person requiring special accommodations to participate in this hearing is asked to advise the agency at least 48 hours in advance by contacting the Board clerk at 434-8139. This hearing is open to the public.
