NOTICE OF RULE DEVELOPMENT
AND PUBLIC HEARING

RULE TITLE: Free and Reduced Price Meals.

RULE NUMBER: Policy 6.186.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: This proposed new policy establishes guidelines to govern free and reduced price meals as required by the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs and the State of Florida.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: This new policy will include, but not be limited to, the application process for free and reduce price meals and notification to parents/guardians thereof; the prohibition of discrimination and the use of meals being used to discipline students; will outline responsibibilities of SFS regarding the free and reduced price meal programs; and other items as outlined in the policy.

SPECIFIC AUTHORITY: Fla. Stat. §§ 1001.41; 1001.42(26); 570.981.

LAWS IMPLEMENTED: Fla. Stat. §§ 570.981; 42 USC 1758; USC 1773; 7 CFR 210.10 (School Lunch Program Regulations); 7 CFR 220.8 (School Breakfast Program Regulations); 7 CFR Part 245 (Free and Reduced Price Meals).

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: Development of the proposed rule is anticipated to be considered at the School Board's Special Meeting on Policies on July 24, 2013, anticipated to begin at 2:00 p.m. (an approximate time, as the actual start time may vary earlier or later) in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Boulevard; West Palm Beach, Fla. AGENDA: An agenda will be available by July 17, 2013 on the District's Web site. Pursuant to the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, any person requiring special accommodations to participate in this hearing is asked to advise the agency at least 48 hours in advance by contacting the Board clerk at 434-8139. A person may submit written comments (12 copies) about the proposed action to the clerk no later than the time of the public hearing. This hearing is open to the public.
