NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE ADOPTION & PUBLIC HEARING

RULE TITLE: Political Activities on School Board Property.

RULE NUMBER: Policy 2.59.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To update guidelines on political activities, such as distribution of political advertising materials, on school grounds.

SUMMARY: Revises the Policy to promote school safety and the educational purpose and integrity of the learning environment, such as by restricting appearances of candidates and access of candidates to school staff mailboxes; and limiting distribution of political material, while also clarifying that student-government election materials of students are allowed in an appropriate time, place, and manner.

Any person who wishes to provide information regarding a statement of estimated regulatory costs, or to provide a proposal for a lower cost regulatory alternative, must do so in writing within 21 days of the publication of this Notice.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: Adoption of the proposed rule is anticipated to be considered at the School Board's Special Meeting on Policies on May 24, 2004, anticipated to begin at 2:15 p.m., in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla. The meeting is open to the public.
