NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONTINUED RULE DEVELOPMENT

PROPOSED RULE AFFECTED: Policy 5.1813, "Operational Procedures for Incidents and Actions for Secondary Students."

CHANGE: The School Board hereby gives notice that the special Board meeting on Policies on August 19, 2002, at 2:30 p.m., is expected to include development of the above-referenced proposed rule. The meeting will be in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla. Development of these proposed revisions previously occurred at the June 17 and July 8, 2002, special meetings on Policies.

NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE DEVELOPMENT

The School Board of Palm Beach County

POLICY TITLE: Operational Procedures for Incidents and Actions for Secondary Students.

POLICY NUMBER: 5.1813.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Updating the coding system used by schools for classifying and handling infractions by secondary students.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The Discipline Committee has recommended a few new incident codes and action codes, as well as some minor definition revisions and changes to the matrix, which should assist in more accurately handling discipline in the schools; corrects clerical errors in the current version and reflects revisions recommended when training materials were developed. At the first readings on June 17 and July 8, the School Board also requested certain amendments, which have been incorporated.
