NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE ADOPTION & PUBLIC HEARING

RULE TITLE: Student Early Reinstatement.

RULE NUMBER: Policy 5.1818.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To codify standards for the limited opportunity for early reinstatement of students that have been expelled, pursuant to Fla. Stat. § 1001.43(1)(e).

SUMMARY: It is the intent of the School Board that students serve the full term of their expulsions, while also recognizing the appropriateness of limited exceptions where students demonstrate fulfillment of certain criteria to be codified in this Policy. Students who have served at least 75% of their prescribed expulsion period and have met all the other requirements outlined in this Policy will be eligible to apply for early reinstatement, unless they were expelled for certain violent offenses under Policy 5.1814.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: Adoption of the proposed rule is anticipated to be considered at the School Board's Special Meeting on Policies on September 13, 2004, anticipated to begin at 2:15 p.m. in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla. AGENDA: A copy of the agenda will be available by September 6 on the District’s Web site. Pursuant to the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, any person requiring special accommodations to participate in these meetings is asked to advise the agency at least 48 hours before the workshop by contacting the Board clerk at 434-8139. This meeting is open to the public.
