POLICY TITLE: Administration of Student Medication/Treatment. POLICY NUMBER: 5.321. SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Administration of medication or related medical treatment by a school nurse or designated school personnel pursuant to Fla. Stat. § 232.46. PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To implement and make more specific the provisions of Fla. Stat. § 232.46: Specifies the duties, authority, and record-keeping responsibilities of the school nurse or other designated school personnel in administering medication or related treatment to students; requires a physician's authorization; specifies the custodial parent/guardian’s responsibility in requesting that medication be given to students; specifies the method in which prescription and over-the-counter medication must be delivered, labeled, and contained.
