NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE DEVELOPMENT

POLICY TITLE: Students with Chronic Illnesses and Infectious Diseases (Including HIV/AIDS).

POLICY NUMBER: 5.322.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Control of various infectious diseases in the school environment; confidentiality requirements, non-discrimination against students with disabilities that may involve chronic or infectious disease, and participation of students with chronic and infections diseases, including HIV/AIDS.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: This revision removes the outdated reference to ARC, as recommended by the DOE; updates the Policy to reflect statutory requirements and appropriate practices regarding reporting and controlling infectious diseases; non-discrimination and participation guidelines for students with a disability that may involve a chronic illness; designates the physician as the medical manager who recommends appropriate levels of participation for students with chronic illnesses or infectious diseases; maintaining the confidentiality of HIV test results and any records concerning AIDS or STDs in accordance with law; various technical changes.
