RULE TITLE: Instructional Materials Accountability.

RULE NUMBER: Policy 8.1225.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Recovery of the new-purchase value of instructional materials, such as textbooks, that are lost, destroyed, or unnecessarily damaged during the first two years of use.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To implement an exemption recognized by the State Board of Education on February 17, 2004, under Charter District status. Although Fla. Stat. § 1006.28(3)(b) would normally permit recovery of 100% of a textbook's new-purchase-price value if it was lost, destroyed, or unnecessarily damaged during the first one year of use, this exemption allows 100% of the new-purchase price to be recovered during the first two years of use.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: Development of the proposed rule is anticipated to be considered at the School Board's Special Meeting on Policies on June 28, 2004, anticipated to begin at 2:15 p.m. in the Board Chambers at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla. (Additionally, a public workshop for Board discussion of this and other proposed Policies will be held on June 21 at 4:00 p.m.)   AGENDA: A copy of the hearing agenda will be available by June 21 on the District’s Web site.
