Title: P4 Maintenance Service of Siemens Fire Alarm Systems

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve comprehensive maintenance service of Siemens Fire Alarm Systems located throughout the School District, in the not-to-exceed amount of $275,000.

 

Description:

Approve comprehensive maintenance service of all Siemens Fire Alarm Systems located in the District.

 

·      Siemens Building Technologies manufactures and distributes their parts exclusively.

 

·      Service is exclusively by Siemens factory-trained technicians with a response time of one to four hours unless it is an emergency situation.  Only trained technicians can provide factory-authorized warranties for Siemens products.

 

·      Programming of Siemens fire alarm panels is proprietary using specific specialized software by their own factory-trained technicians.

 

·      Siemens Building Technologies has offices in Palm City and Miramar with over 50 full-time employees and 24 factory-trained technicians available to meet the needs of the School District on a per-call basis.

 

·      Fifteen percent of our schools throughout the District are equipped with Siemens Building Technologies fire alarm systems.

 

·      Siemens Building Technologies is offering the School District an hourly labor rate of $104 versus a commercial rate of $130 and a 20% discount off list price for parts.

 

·     The School District pricing and discount from Siemens Building Technologies is effective for the two-year period from March 1, 2005 through February 28, 2007.

 

 

 

 

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the District Budget is estimated at $275,000.   The source of funds is the Maintenance and Plant Operations Department budget.
