Title: PM4 Educational Specification for Okeeheelee Middle

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the Educational Specification for the addition to Okeeheelee Middle School, and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.

Description:

Okeeheelee Middle School

1. The addition to Okeeheelee Middle is scheduled to commence 2006 and be completed by 2007 according to the Board-adopted FY 2005 - FY 2009 Five-Year Plan.

2. The educational specification for the addition to Okeeheelee Middle is consistent with the CSR facility lists and CSR generic educational specifications approved by the Board on November 8, 2004.

3. The “CSR FISH Capacity” of this school design would be 1496 and the “Program Capacity” of this school design would be 1258 students, as authorized by the Charter School District Waiver granted by the Florida Board of Education on January 21, 2003.

4. The Educational Specification also reflects the instructional needs of the existing International Spanish Academy serving the students of the school. The Educational Specifications consist of additional General Classrooms and Skills Development Laboratory.

5. The Educational Specification also reflects the instructional needs of the Amendment 9 – Class Size Reduction. Additional teaching spaces have been provided by adding General Classrooms and Science Demonstration/Classrooms.

6. Middle schools are designed with a total of six (6) spaces for exploratory career components. The design for Okeeheelee Middle included four (4). Thus, two (2)
business laboratories have been added to the Educational Specifications to ensure that Okeeheelee Middle has a full career component of six (6) spaces.

7.  The existing facility presently has thirty-five (35) portables.  The proposed educational specification includes twenty-three (23) instructional spaces.

8. The existing facilities will be analyzed by the project architect to determine appropriate usage of the site and buildings for necessary renovations and remodeling to meet SREF size standards, ADA requirements and other code issues.

9. The Educational Specification was reviewed and approved by the principal.
