Title: P3 Approve Repairs for The Education Network

Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the repairs for The Education Network equipment with the companies listed and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all necessary documents.

Description:

P3  Approve Repairs for The Education Network Equipment Damaged in Hurricane Wilma

·      When Hurricane Wilma struck Palm Beach County in October 2005, the equipment for The Education Network was severely damaged.  In order to repair the damaged equipment, the original manufacturers were contacted to determine the extent and cost of repairs.  R & D Communications and Microwave Radio Communications have provided quotations for the repairs.  

·       R & D Communications has installed five satellite systems at The Education Network site.  The antenna portion of the system was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma and since this vendor provided, installed, and aligned the existing satellite systems at this facility, it is more cost effective to have them replace the damaged equipment than to purchase a complete new systems.  Using R & D Communications in this instance would be the most effective and economical way of dealing with the repairs.  The estimate provided by R & D Communications is $33,031.

·      In November 1999, The Education Network purchased a Microwave mobile Transmitter and Receive System per Bid #00-15R from Adaptive Broadband (now Microwave Radio Communications).  While Hurricane Wilma left the Mobile Transmitter System and fixed receiver portion of the Receive System installed and operational, the receive antenna, cable, and associated hardware were destroyed.  Approval is requested to purchase the damaged and destroyed equipment from the system manufacturer, Microwave Radio Communications.  The estimate provided by Microwave Radio Communications is $35,007. 

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the District Budget is estimated at $70,000.  The source of funds is The Education Network budgets.
