New Business - Agreements/Contracts

Title: AC3-Funding for the Center for Creative Education Project Leap through Arts Partnerships

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the continuation of the agreement with the Center for Creative Education's Project Learning & Education through Arts Partnerships (LEAP),  in the amount of $85, 000, effective April 20, 2006 through August 31, 2006, and authorize the necessary budget amendments.

Description:

Project LEAP has been in partnership with the School District since 1995. 
 
This project:
  º  Creates collaborations between professional artists and School District teachers to plan and implement innovate lesson plans to teach academic subject matter through the arts.
  º  Provides hands-on interactive inservice training for teachers and administrators in arts integration, arts based activities, multiple intelligence theory, curriculum mapping, concept mapping and FCAT strategies.
  º  Develops communities by linking Project LEAP with the BEACON Centers (after school).
  º  Receives matching funds from the MacArthur, Knight, A.D. Henderson, Frankino and the Grant Foundations.
  º  Provides an annual review and will submit a written summary including financial report by August 30 of each year.
  º  Provides in-school and out of school professional development for teachers for the balance of the school year.
  º  Provides a summer institute for teachers linking FCAT strategies in academics through arts education.

The principals self select to take part in the program which is primarily offered to Title I Schools.  These schools are as follows: 
  º  Belle Glade Elementary
  º  Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary
  º  Egret Lake Comm. Elementary
  º  J.C. Mitchell Elementary
  º  JFK Charter School
  º  Jupiter Farms Elementary
  º  Liberty Park Elementary
  º  North Grade Elementary
  º  Okeeheelee Middle
  º  Pahokee Elementary
  º  Palm Beach Gardens Elementary
  º  Palm Beach Lakes High
  º  Palm Beach Public
  º  Palmetto Elementary
  º  Poinciana Elementary
  º  Riviera Beach Elementary 
  º  Rolling Green elementary
  º  Royal Palm School
  º  Sago Palm School
  º  Wellington Elementary
  º  West Gate Elementary,
  º  Whispering Pines Elementary
  º  Wynnebrook Elementary 

Financial Impact:
Financial Impact is $85, 000 from the general fund. These funds are allocated to the Department of Secondary Adult and Community Education.
