Title: P1 School Site Civic Dedication

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board authorize the Chair to sign a letter to the Board of County Commissioners requesting an amendment to the County’s Land Development Regulations to include  School Site Civic Dedication provisions. 

Description:

• Please see the attached letter prepared for the Chair’s signature.
• The letter requests an amendment to the County’s Land Development Regulations, to add provisions that include school sites in the civic site dedication requirements for Planned Unit Developments (PUDs).
• The inclusion of a new Subsection (5) in Article 3, Section 2 (E), “Overlays and Zoning Districts- Planned Unit Developments- Pods,” of the Land Development Code would help ensure that adequate real estate is available for public school facilities necessary to serve our community.  This approach will also further provisions in Florida Statute Chapters 163 and 1013 that require the provision of adequate school sites proximate to residential areas.
• Our Planning Department and Real Estate Department staff members will be available to assist the County staff with the Code amendments.
•  This request will supplement the Board’s January 25, 2006 action regarding Developer Contributions.

Financial Impact:

The Financial Impact is expected to enhance the real estate site acquisition budget through additional site dedications for the land banking program.
