Title: PM2 Project Modifications for Omni Middle

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board ratify Project Modifications in the amount of $15,480.00 for Omni Middle School, HVAC Replacement Project, and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.

Description:

 

Omni Middle School – HVAC Replacement Project #1991-8222 

 

This project modification contains the following items:

 

Item #1

  • CCD #8 in the amount of $3,692.00.
  • Description: Repaint the Gym walls.
  • Cause: School District Requested
  • Justification: The principal requested an alternate color choice.  Upon completion of the painting, the lighting influences caused the paint color appear to be light pink instead of cream.

Item #2

  • CCD #9 in the amount of $ 2,433.00
  • Description: Relocate chilled water piping at Gym.
  • Cause: Design Omission
  • Justification: Site conditions presented a concrete tie beam at the designated entry of the chilled water lines.  The District opted to relocate the lines instead of core drilling the tie beam.     

Item #3

  • CCD #10 in the amount of $2,612.00
  • Description: Construct a stucco chase around exposed chiller pipes at the Gymnasium Building.
  • Cause: School District Requested
  • Justification: Designed chase was of sheet metal. Due to the location of the chase, students were pounding on the chase like a drum.  The principal requested an alternate chase solution. 

Item #4

  • CCD #11 in the amount of $16,161.00
  • Description: Correct above ceiling code violations
  • Cause: Unforeseen Condition
  • Justification: Code corrections required prior to the installation of the new mechanical systems, Buildings A, B, C, D, F, and H.  

Item #5

  • CCD #12 rev.3 in the credit amount of ($22,537.00) 
  • Description: Credit Deduct for portable electric service installation.
  • Cause: School District Requested.
  • Justification:  The District contracted for this work with an alternate vendor.

Item #6

  • CCD #13 in the amount of $4,102.00  
  • Description: Repair conduits cut during the installation of the chilled water loop.
  • Cause: Unforeseen Condition
  • Justification:  The existing conduits were originally placed in the concrete walkways, not 18" below grade as required.  The conduits were subsequently cut with the concrete walkways during the chiller loop installation.  

Item #7

  • CCD #14 in the amount of $1,246.00
  • Description: Add soffit to cover exposed duct work  
  • Cause: Design Omission
  • Justification:  The ceiling height of the rooms adjoining the elevated mechanical room was above the floor of the mechanical room creating need for the soffit to hide the duct work.

Item #8

  • CCD #15 in the amount of $7,771.00   
  • Description: Replace existing exhaust fans  
  • Cause: Unforeseen Conditions.
  • Justification:  As per the general notes on the plans, the contractor is to inspect and inform the District of non-working exhaust fans.  Exhaust fans must be operable to fully balance the system.

Financial Impact:

The financial impact to the Project's Budget is $15,480.00.

 

The source of funds is Minor Projects.
