Title: P6 Approve the Safety Council Payment Schedule

Recommendation:

      I recommend approval of Safety Council

       Payment Schedule and authorize the

       Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign

       all necessary documents.

 

Description:

P6  Approve the Safety Council Payment

       Schedule

 

Since the start of the cooperative agreement between the School District and the Palm Beach Safety Council to remit funds for "Behind the Wheel" training of our driver education students, there has been a payment delay that has overlapped our fiscal years.

·         During the school year 2002-2003, The Safety Council provided services for two quarters. The purchase order for that year was only issued for one quarter (up to $150,000).

·         In subsequent years, The Safety Council has been receiving four quarterly payments per year (up to $600,000); however, in actuality the first payment of each fiscal year was the final payment for the previous fiscal year.

·         In order to correct the payment schedule, we are requesting permission to issue an additional quarterly payment (up to $150,000) during the 2005-2006 school year. This would bring us in line for payment for ongoing years to reflect services provided during those fiscal years.

 

Financial Impact:

The financial impact of this item is $150,000.  Each fiscal year, the Palm Beach County Commission remits monies collected per traffic moving violation (up to $600,000). These monies are then paid by the School District to the Palm Beach Safety Council.
