Title: CLS1-Continued Funding of the Education Commission of Palm Beach County, Florida Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the allocation of funds in the amount of $50,000 to support the Education Commission of Palm Beach County effective July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007.
Description: The goal of the Commission continues to be promoting activities and initiatives that support education in Palm Beach County. The activities support literacy, parental involvement, safe schools, workforce development, postsecondary-vocational education, community and business partnerships and legislative action that will adequately fund education from pre-kindergarten through college. The Education Commission is a non-profit, 501C(3) organization.
The Commission is made up of thirty-five (35) members of the public and private sectors. The representation of the Commission reflects the diversity of the community and brings a variety of groups to the table. Funding for the Commission is solicited from the membership as well as outside grants, gifts, and donations.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the District's FY2006 General Fund Operating Budget is $50,000.
