Title: AC4-Project Lead The Way, Inc., Lease Agreement

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the Project Lead The Way Inc., Software Lease Agreement and other curriculum for Engineering Academies at a cost of $394,608 effective July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the agreement.  It is further recommended that the Purchasing Department be authorized to purchase the instructional support materials, supplies and equipment from Project Lead The Way, Inc., suggested vendors.

Description:

The School District has a perpetual agreement with Project Lead The Way, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation, for the purpose of providing an Engineering Curriculum.

The programs will be based at Atlantic Community High School, Forest Hill Community High School, Glades Central Community High School, Jupiter Community High School, Olympic Heights Community High School, and Palm Beach Central Community High School.  The programs were chosen as part of the Career Education Business Leadership Committee (CEBLC) selection process and the SDPBC Program Proposal process.

Project Lead The  Way, Inc., is a partnership between schools, colleges, and universities that seek to increase the number of qualified high school students who can enter a two or four year college engineering program.  Nationally, there are over 1,000 schools affiliated with  Project Lead The Way, Inc.

Project Lead The Way, Inc., has stringent curriculum criteria, including math assessments for teachers and required summer and school year training for teachers and guidance counselors.

Student performance is measured annually using a written examination provided by Project Lead The Way, Inc., and program performance is measured with a follow-up survey of completers.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the FY 2007 Special Revenue-Other funds budget is $74,495.  The source of the funds is the Carl D. Perkins Secondary Grant.  The financial impact to the FY 2007 Capital Budget is $320,113.   The source of funds is the Capital Budget at Glades Central Community High School.
