Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve additional expenditures for the purchase of Knox Security Products in the not-to-exceed amount of $80,000.

Description:

P1 - Approve request for additional estimated expenditure for Knox Security Products in the not-to-exceed amount of $80,000. 

·      Knox Security Products is the sole distributor for the secure-exterior enclosure systems used for rapid emergency access by the local fire departments & police departments throughout Palm Beach County.  The enclosures have proprietory keyways which cannot be reproduced by any other enclosure manufacturer.

·      Approved Estimated Expenditure:  $60,000

·      Type of Contract:  Fixed Unit Price.  No total expenditure is guaranteed.

·      Purchase Orders Issued:  $55,725

·      The revised estimated expenditure is requested to be increased by $80,000 for a total of $140,000.  The current budget has sufficient funds to cover estimated costs in the fiscal year.  No additional budget funds are required.

·      Reason for Increase:  Additional boxes are needed for new schools and replacements due to wear and vandalism.  Establishing lock boxes at each school is mandatory by the Fire Marshal and must comply with fire code requirements.

Financial Impact:
The additional financial impact to the District Budget is estimated at $80,000.   The source of funds is the School Police and Maintenance and Plant Operations Departments budgets.
