Title: AC8-Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition - Glades Family Literacy

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve a  new contract with the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition in the amount of $25,000 each year for the period of July 20, 2006 to June 30, 2009 and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents related to the contract, which are required for the implementation of the contract activities.

Description:

The purpose of this contract is to fund the Early Childhood Education component at the Glades Family Education Program in Belle Glade.

Family Literacy programs are based on four components:  Adult education, age-appropriate childhood  education, parenting classes and PACT Time (Parents and Children Together).

Outcomes of this Early Childhood Education component will be measured by standardized Ages and Stages Questionnaires.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the budget is $25,000 annually FY07 through FY09.  The source of funds is Adult Workforce Development funds.  These are state categorical funds which are not part of K-12  funding.  There is no capital impact.  The funds are budgeted in the Department of Secondary, Adult and Community Education.  All expenditures and contracts are authorized for payment up to the amount of revenue.
