Title: PM1 Educational Specification for C.O. Taylor/Kirklane

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the Facility List and Educational Specification for the modernization of CO Taylor/Kirklane Elementary and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.

Description:

  1. The construction of Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School modernization is scheduled to commence 2007 and be completed by 2008 according to the Board-adopted FY 2006-10 Five-Year Plan.

  1. Due to limited opportunities for enrollment relief in the area, the population of Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary is expected to be higher than the typical generic elementary school. Therefore, the Generic Elementary Facility List will be modified to include additional classrooms and an increase in core spaces to meet the need of the surrounding community.

  1. The FISH Capacity of this school design will be 1439 and the ”Program Capacity” of this school design will be for 1200 students grades Kindergarten to 5.  The use of the “Program Capacity” for the construction of the school is consistent with the Charter School District Waiver granted by the Florida Board of Education on January 21, 2003.

  1. The Educational Specification includes twenty-three (23) additional instructional spaces for existing ESOL, Title 1 and Dual Language program needs.

  1. The Educational Specification reflects the use of grade level grouping (K-2 and 3-5) to enable implementation of the “school-within-a-school” concepts.

  1. The Educational Specification was reviewed and approved by the Principal.

Financial Impact:

Financial impact will be determined when construction contract is negotiated.
