Title: AC4 Approval of the Eighth Amendment to the Agreement with the Health Care District Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the Eighth Amendment with the Health Care District of Palm Beach County for the provision of basic school health services.
Description:
- The purpose of the Eighth Amendment is to provide funding for full-time nurse coverage for four (4) new schools (Elbridge Gale Elementary, Hidden Oaks Elementary, L.C. Swain Middle, and Seminole Ridge High) that opened in August 2005. Funding for the basic school health services, which this amendment addresses, was approved in the FY06 budget for the Department of Supplemental Educational Services.
- This funding is to be transfered from the School District of Palm Beach County to the Health Care District of Palm Beach County to provide full-time nurse coverage for four (4) new schools.
- The agreement, approved in July 2001, the First amendment, approved in October 2002, (Second Amendment through SOBEIT grant) the Third Amendment, approved in October 2003 (Fourth amendment through SOBEIT grant), approved in October 2004 provides:
* Funding for full-time nurse coverageat twenty-three schools, which opened in August 2001, August 2002, August 2003, and August 2004;
* Authorization for the student supply fee of $.50 per student transferred from the School District of Palm Beach County to the Health Care District of Palm Beach County; and
- A waiver of the fee charged for background checks for school health employees of the Palm Beach County Health Care District, Hospital Partners, and Florida Atlantic University College of Nursing who together contribute $13+ million dollars to the School Health Program.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund budget is $200,000. The source of funds is $200,000 from the Department of Supplemental Educational Services budget.
