Title: AC7 Renewal of the Agreement with the Urban League of Palm Beach County, Inc., for the Weekday Warr

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve renewal of the agreement with the Urban League of Palm Beach, Inc., in the amount of $46,323 for implementation of the Weekday Warriors Program for a one-year period from October 19, 2005 to October 19, 2006.

Description:

The focus of the Weekday Warriors Program is to raise FCAT scores through tutoring for the District of Palm Beach County youths at grade levels 3-5.

The program that is coordinated by the Urban League of Palm Beach County, Inc., involves interdenominational churches and community centers.   They provide communication to families as well as deliver tutorial services  to District students.  The program is non-sectarian and is open to all public students.

The School District will provide $46,323 to the Urban League to support implementation of the Weekday Warriors program.  Funding will be used for the salaries of the program coordinator, three teachers, three site coordinators and supplies.

The FY 2005 follow-up report on the Weekday Warriors Program prepared by the Urban League of Palm Beach County indicated that:
    .  students were served at 3 paid sites and 5 volunteer sites,
    .  41 tutorial sessions were conducted, and
    .  9 staff development sessions were provided to the program staff, site coordinators and volunteers.
A similar report will be provided for the FY 2006 program.

Success of the Weekday Warriors Program will continue to be measured by student achievement gains for participating students on district-wide and state-wide assessments for FY 2005-2006, with particular attention given to FCAT gains.  (See the attached FY 2005 Gains Report.)

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund Budget is $46,323.  The source of funds is the Quality Assurance/Choice budget.
