Title: G1 English Literacy and Civics Education Grant Contract

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve a contract with the Palm Beach Literacy Coalition in an amount up to $12,000, to provide English Literacy and Civics Education programs to adult ESOL students, effective October 20, 2005 to June 30, 2006, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant activities.

Description:

This funding is to assist  the Palm Beach Literacy Coalition in the expansion of educational services that incorporate English Literacy and Civics Education. This funding comes from the English Literacy and Civics grant, which was approved as a two-year grant in June, 2004. This is the second year of this continuation grant.

The Palm Beach Literacy Coalition will provide services to a minimum of 100 adults in FY 06 who will demonstrate educational gains in basic and functional literacy, placement, retention, promotion in a job or attainment of the GED.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue - Other Funds budget is $12,000. The source of funds is the English Literacy and Civics Grant. These are Workforce Development related grant funds and not part of K-12 FTE funding. There is no capital impact.
