Title: CS3 First Amendment to the Charter for Life Skills Center - Glades Area

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the First Amendment to the Agreement with Life Skills Center - Glades Area.

Description:

The School Board of Palm Beach County, Florida, ("School Board") and Life Skills Center of Palm Beach County, Inc. operating as Life Skills Center - Glades Area ("Charter School"), entered into an Agreement on May 17, 2006.

On July 10, 2006 the School Board received written correspondence from the Charter School requesting that its opening date be deferred until January 1, 2007.

The request was based upon the fact that a facility would not be available until that date.

There are certain provisions in the Charter Agreement that need to be extended based on the deferred opening date.  Those provisions are outlined in the First Amendment.

In the event of any conflict between the terms of the First Amendment and the Charter Agreement, the terms of the First Amendment shall control.

The Superintendent is authorized to take administrative action on delayed or deferred openings of Charter Schools.

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact to the District.
