Title: U1 Architectural Agreement for Old Jupiter ES (Renovation)

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the award of an Architectural Consultant Agreement with Dow Howell Gilmore & Associates, Inc. in the amount of $457,000. and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all required documents for Old Jupiter Elementary School (Renovation), Project No.0071-8219.

Description:

Architectural design services required for renovation, repairs and structural upgrades to the original Jupiter School Building (circa 1923) to accommodate the addition of ten elementary classrooms, included in the Work is complete MEP replacement, installation of a new elevator, exit stairs, roofing and required interior finishes.  All renovations will be in consideration of historical value and appearance of the original structure.

 

Approved Budget for Planning and Design: $280,000. 

Approved Construction Budget: $4,000,000. 

Minority Participation: 15%

Base Fee: $368,000.

 

Funds Available For:
Additional Services: $50,000. (Modifications to Scope of Work) $13,000. (Coordination of Selective Demolition and Structural Assessment) $8,000. (Review of As Built Plans) Total Amount for Additional Services $71,000. 
Reimbursables.: $18,000.
Total:
$457,000.


Four (4) firms responded to the RFP and three (3) were shortlisted.  The final ranking of the Selection Committee is as follows: 

(1) Dow Howell Gilmore & Associates, Inc. 

(2) Brown & Brown Architect, Inc.

(3) RCT Architecture, Inc.

Financial Impact:

The financial impact is $457,000. The source of funds is the corresponding Capital Projects Budget. The District will provide the Professional Responsibility Insurance at a cost of $10,000.

Additional funds totaling $2,163,624 will be needed to complete this project.  Subject to approval by the School Board, the 2006 Class Size Reduction funds will be reallocated from portable replacement to this project.  The reallocation of the funds will be presented to the School Board on December 7, 2005 and then forwarded to the Department of Education for final approval.
