Each year the safety patrols at Lake Park Elementary have the opportunity to take advantage of the annual Palm Beach County Patrol Trip to Washington D.C. The students fortunate enought to participate return to our school with a better understanding of our country's history, how our history impacts society today and the role of our federal government.
Despite a great deal of coordinated fundraising efforts by the patrol sponsor and our fifth grade teachers, only a small percentage of our patrols are able to participate. By and large, all of our patrol parents would love for their children to have this opportunity, however, due to the cost of the trip, they simply cannot afford it.
The purpose of this program is to develop leadership and critical thinking skills of our safety patrols by exposing them to The Continuous Quality Improvement Model for problem solving and by providing several opportunities for them to implement this strategy while learning about the successful practices of area businesses and organizations. Students who complete the program will be awarded $600.00 toward the cost of their trip to Washington D.C.
As a result of the grant students will:
Learn, practice and master the six-step process for the Continuous Quality Improvement Model
Participate in 90 hours of after school training presented by area businesses and organizations
Present a power point presentation
Improve their critical thinking skills
Improve their math score by at least 10% from the previous year.
This is a non-competitive grant in the amount of $18,000 for one year.
A copy of the grant application is on file in the Board Minutes Office.
