Title: G1-Adult with Disabilities Grant

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the continuation of the Adults with Disabilities competitive grant in the amount of $1,508,606 effective September 21, 2006 to June 30, 2007 and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of grant activities.

Description:

Consider approval of the continuation of the Adults with Disabilities Grant in the amount of $1,508,606 effective  September 21, 2006 to June 30, 2007.  This will be the seventh year of this grant.

The goal of this grant is to provide funding for a vocational training program for disabled adult students in Palm Beach County.  The population to be served will be limited to no less than 570 disabled adult students served through a combination of 10 full-time vocational instructors and 29 full-time paraprofessionals, employed by liaison agencies.

This program is administered by South Tech Charter Academy, Inc.

Two individualized employability benchmarks are established for each student on a yearly basis.  This grant-funded program helps the students work toward achieving their two benchmarks.

Evaluation of the program includes:
• creation of an IEP with at least two vocational or academic goals;
• formulation of a checklist outlining benchmarks for goals; and
• monthly evaluations by agency/teacher/student using checklist.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the District is an increase of $1,508,606 to the Special Revenue - Other Funds Budget.  These Workforce Development related grant funds are not part of K-12 FEFP funding.  The funds are allocated within the Department of K-12 Curriculum, Adult and Community Education.  All grant-related expenditures and contracts are authorized for payment up to the amount of the revenue.
