Title: PM4 Educational Specification for Wellington Elementary Recommendation:
I recommend the School Board approve the Educational Specification for the comprehensive addition of Wellington Elementary and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.
Description:
- The construction of Wellington Elementary School comprehensive addition is scheduled to commence 2007 and be completed by 2008 according to the proposed FY 2007-11 Five-Year Plan. This project was originally conceived to eliminate older portables, but moving the project forward one year and making a comprehensive addition allows the District to postpone the construction of a new elementary school in Wellington (05-B).
- The Educational Specification for Wellington Elementary is consistent with the Class Size Reduction (CSR) Facility Lists and CSR generic educational specification approved by the Board on October 19, 2005.
- The FISH Capacity of this school design will be 1032 and the ”Program Capacity” of this school design will be for 960 students grades Kindergarten to 5. The use of the “Program Capacity” for the construction of the school is consistent with the Charter School District Waiver granted by the Florida Board of Education on January 21, 2003.
- The Educational Specification includes additional instructional spaces to support the existing ESE and Pre-K programs.
- The Castaldi analysis identifies several buildings (Buildings 3-10, 14, 17 & 18) that may be renovated or remodeled. The existing facilities will be analyzed by the project architect to determine appropriate usage of the site and buildings for necessary renovations, remodeling and/or additions to meet SREF size standards, ADA requirements and other code issues.
- The Educational Specification reflects the use of grade level grouping to enable implementation of the “school-within-a-school” concepts.
- The Educational Specification was reviewed and approved by the Principal.
Financial Impact:
Financial impact will be determined when construction contract is negotiated.
