Title: PM7 Project Modifications for John F. Kennedy Middle Recommendation:
I recommend the School Board ratify Project Modifications in the amount of $779,061.91 for John F. Kennedy Middle School, Modernization Project, and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.
Description:
John F. Kennedy Middle School – Modernization Project #0201-7444
This project modification contains the following items:
Item #1
- CCD #1 in the amount Not-to-Exceed $500,000.00
- Description: Demolition, removal, and replacement of all tilt wall panels, roofing materials, precast beams and joist, and damaged concrete slabs, along with all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing associated with these items.
- Cause: Unforeseen Conditions.
- Justification: To make repairs to the areas damaged by Hurricane Wilma. This was the original estimate and was authorized by the Chief of Facilities Management in accordance with School Board Policy 2.38 to minimize project delays. Future contracts will require double bracing of tilt wall panels that have not been completely connected if a hurricane watch is issued.
Item #2
- CCD #2 in the amount of $191,132.65
- Description: Additional repairs due to damages caused by Hurricane Wilma.
- Cause: Unforeseen Conditions.
- Justification: Once all of the repairs were completed it was determined that the original $500,000 estimate was insufficient to cover all hurricane repairs.
Item #3
- CCD #3 in the amount of $9,628.68
- Description: Install approximately 300 LF of conduit provided by Florida Power & Light.
- Cause: Outside Agency
- Justification: Required for underground cable installation due to relocation of power poles in conflict with the bus loop. FPL agreed to move the pole and provide the conduit at their expense provided the District install the conduit. FPL normally requires owners to pay the entire cost of moving poles if it is for the benefit of the owner.
Item #4
- CCD #4 in the amount of $78,300.58
- Description: Redesign the Educational Technology classroom for the addition of a vestibule for life safety access, additional rated walls, new partition walls, additional doors, plumbing reconfigurations and fixtures, the installation of conduits, wires, circuit breakers and HVAC alterations and additions including a new roof-mounted air handler.
- Cause: School District Requested.
- Justification: The redesign is required to accommodate two computer rooms and new computers for the Leap Program for multiple retained middle school students.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Project's Budget is $779,061.91
The source of funds is Capital Contingency. The District anticipates a reimbursement of $650,000.00 from insurance proceeds and reimbursement from FEMA is unknown at this time.
