Title: National School Bus Safety Week Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board of Palm Beach County proclaims the week of October 15-21, 2006 as Florida School Bus Safety Week and encourages all Floridians to keep a watchful eye for students going to and from school, and reminds motorists to take extra precautions around students.
Description: The School District of Palm Beach County maintains an excellent safety record in transporting students. School bus drivers and all transportation professionals are to be commended and honored for their commitment to school bus safety. Although school buses continue to be the safest vehicle on the road to transport students, the danger zones around school buses continue to be of great concern. Motorists must stop when a school bus has its flashing red lights on and its stop arms extended. These are the signals that indicate school children are boarding or departing from the bus, and it is one of the most critical times for the safety of children.
