Title: Resolution to Retain Exclusive Authority to Authorize Charter Schools within the Geographic Boundari

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board adopt the Resolution, with the attached written description, to Retain Exclusive Authority to Authorize Charter Schools within the Geographic Boundaries of the School District of Palm Beach County.

Description: For fiscal year 2007-2008 and each fiscal year thereafter; a District School Board may seek to retain exclusive authority to authorize Charter Schools within the geographic boundaries of the School District.  The District School Board may submit to the State Board of Education (SBE), on or before 60 days after the establishment of the Florida Schools of Excellence Commission (FSE), a written Resolution for exclusive authority.  A written description addressing the factors relating to the District's oversight and administration of Charter Schools the previous four (4) years will be available on September 25, 2006.  Members of FSE were appointed on August 15, 2006.  Therefore a copy of the Resolution and the written description need to be submitted on or before October 13, 2006.

Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact to the District.
