Title: P2 Agreement Between Palm Tran and the School Board of Palm Beach County for Student

Recommendation:

I recommend approval of additional expenditures on the Agreement between Palm Tran and the School Board of Palm Beach County for Student Transportation and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all necessary documents.

Description:

P2       Approve the expenditure to Palm Tran for student transportation.  This expenditure estimated at $600,000 will cover transportation costs for the 2007 through the 2008 school years.

 

·          An agreement between Palm Beach County and the School District of Palm Beach County was signed on September 27, 2005.

 

·          The Agreement allows for students eligible for transportation services to be transported on Palm Tran buses

 

·          The Agreement allows for students, district-wide, who are accepted for admission to the choice programs to have access to public transportation to and from school.

 

·        For the 2003/2004 school year, 1100 students were transported,

            For the 2004/2005 school year, 1190 students were transported.

            For the 2005/2006 school year, 1450 eligible secondary students were transported

 

·          Expenditures for 2005/2006 school year were $515,870.

 

·          The expenditure to Palm Tran through the 2007 school year is estimated at $600,000. This includes an increase in annual passes of $20.00 for the 2007 school year. 

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Transportation Budget is estimated at $600,000.  The source of funds is the Transportation budget.
