Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the comprehensive maintenance service agreement by Siemens Building Technologies for the Siemens Fire Alarm Systems located throughout the School District, in the not-to-exceed amount of $350,000.

Description:

P2   Maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems – Siemens Building

        Technologies

Approve a comprehensive maintenance service agreement of all Siemens Fire Alarm Systems located in the District.

·    Of approximately 200 fire alarm systems throughout the

District, Siemens brand systems represents about 15%.

·   Siemens Building Technologies manufactures and

     distributes their exclusive parts.

·   Service is exclusively by Siemens factory trained

technicians with a response time of one to four

hours for regular service and one to two hours for

     emergency service.

·    Only trained technicians can provide factory authorized

      warranties for Siemens products.

·    Programming of Siemens fire alarm panels is proprietary

using specialized software by their own

      factory trained technicians.

Miramar with approximately 20 factory trained technicians

available to meet the needs of the School District on a per-

      call basis.

·   Siemens Building Technologies is offering the School

District an hourly labor rate of $104 versus a

commercial rate of $130 which is the same rate offered the

District two years ago.  They also offer the District a 30%

discount of list prices for parts which is an increase of 10%

     from the previous agreement.

·   The rates and discounts offered from Siemens Building

Technologies is effective for a three year period, effective

     March 1, 2007 through February 28, 2010.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the District Budget is estimated at $350,000 over three years.  The source of funds is the Maintenance and Plant Operations Department budget.
