Title: CLS2-2006-2007 School Improvement Plans

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the School Improvement Plans submitted for the 2006-2007 school year.

Description:

In accordance with Florida statutes, the 2005-2006 School Improvement Plans:

*        have been developed based on a needs assessment that reflects current student achievement data from multiple data sources,

*        include objectives and strategies that have focused on reading, writing, and mathematics achievement  targets as specified by the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress (NCLB AYP) report per subgroup and graduation rate per subgroup (when applicable),

*        include an objective for science,

*        include an objective that addresses single school culture,

*        include professional development aligned with the objectives,

*        include training, instructional materials, technology, staffing, student support services, school safety, discipline, and other matters of resource allocation, and

*        have been developed and approved by each School Advisory Council.

 

The plans of Title 1 schools also include the Title 1 ten components:

*        comprehensive needs assessment of the entire school,

*        schoolwide reform strategies,

*        instruction by highly qualified teachers,

*        high-quality and ongoing professional development,

*        strategies to attract high-quality highly qualified teachers to high-need schools,

*        strategies to increase parental involvement,

*        plans for assisting preschool children,

*        measures to include teachers in the decisions regarding the use of academic assessments, and

*        activities to ensure that students who experience difficulty mastering the proficient or advanced levels of  academic achievement standards shall be provided with effective, timely additional assistance.

 

School Improvement funds will be used primarily for professional development and procurement of instructional materials.

Financial Impact:
School Improvement initiatives are supported through state lottery funds.  The FY2007 School Improvement Fund allocation of $10 per student is approximately $1.7 million.
