Title: AC5-Agreement between the SDPBC and Jupiter Medical Center Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve a new contract with Jupiter Medical Center, Inc. effective December 14, 2006 - June 30, 2008 and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the agreement which are required for implementation.
Description: The purpose of this new agreement with Jupiter Medical Center, Inc is to provide clinical experience to adult students who complete a course in Phlebotomy offered through community schools and funded through Community Education cost recovery.
The Phlebotomy course is offered to adults in the evening programs at Palm Springs Community Middle School. The classroom instruction is delivered at the school by a nationally certified Phlebotomy technician employed by the School District. The clinical rotation takes place with an appropriate health care provider.
This agreement with Jupiter Medical Center will provide 80 hours of clinical experience to meet the state requirements of this course to adult students after they complete the classroom portion of the Phlebotomy training provided by the District.
We anticipate serving approximately 10 adult students per year at Jupiter Medical Center.
The method of evaluation is two fold. First, students who complete the classroom instruction part of the course must pass an exam. Then, they go to a medical facility where they participate in 80 hours of clinical rotations where they are observed and supervised by a licensed Phlebotomist. The results of the clinical experience is reported to the school. Upon successful completion of all requirements, a certificate of completion is issued by the community school.
Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact of this agreement to the District.
