Title: AC6-Amendment to Cooperative Agreement with SP Behavioral, LLC, DBA Sandy Pines (AP) Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the amendment to the confirming cooperative agreement with SP Behavioral, LLC., DBA Sandy Pines which was approved on December 13, 2006. I authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents related to this agreement.
Description: An IEP team met on December 12, 2006 and confirmed that the student continues to require residential placement to address behavioral needs. The student was originally placed into a residential facility by the school district on November 13, 2006. The Board approved a short term residential contract on December 13, 2006.
At the IEP meeting on December 12, 2006, district staff reviewed current educational, psychological, and psychiatric information and determined that the student continues to require placement in residential treatment facility.
Prior to the current placement, the student had been attending Lake Worth High School. Aggressive behavior had escalated to the point that the student was in crisis and required an immediate stabilization and diagnostic educational placement. The student was assigned to Columbia Hospital for two weeks.
Prior to June 30, 2007, the IEP team will convene to review the student's progress and determine an appropriate placement.
The student has been appropriately identified as a student with disabilities in the area of Emotionally Handicapped by the School District of Palm Beach County in compliance with state and local statutes and regulations.
The district will pay the costs for those days the student is physically present and in attendance at the residential facility.
This amendment will increase the original contract by $66,150 (from $14,700 to $80,850).
The cooperative agreement is in compliance with State Board Rule 6A.6-0361, "Special Programs Contractual Agreements with Non-Public Schools."
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the School District's general operating fund is $ 66,150. The source of funds is the Exceptional Student Education Department budget.
