Title: AC5-Agreement with the Urban League of Palm Beach County, Inc., for the Weekday Warriors Program

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the agreement with the Urban League of Palm Beach, Inc., in the amount of $24,000 for implementation of the Weekday Warriors Program effective December 1, 2006 through May 31, 2007.

Description:

The focus of the Weekday Warriors Program (WWP)  is to raise FCAT scores of grade 3 students through tutoring activities.

The program employs three (3) certified teachers who are employed by the School District.  Students are grouped at a 12:1 student teacher ratio and the curriculum used is the Comprehensive After School Program (CAP).

Tutorial services are offered at three (3) locations:  Gaines Park, Coleman Park, and Orthodox Zion Primitive Baptist Church on Monday through Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.  Currently, there are 36 grade 3 students enrolled in the program.  Students are recruited from community schools.

The School District will provide $24,000 to the Urban League to support implementation of the WWP.  Funding will be used for the salaries of the program and site coordinators as well as to purchase supplies.

Success of the WWP will be evaluated based on student performance on district-wide and state-wide assessments.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund Budget is $24,000.  The source of funds is the Quality Assurance budget.
