Title: Resolution to Retain Exclusive Authority

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board adopt the Resolution to Retain Exclusive Authority to Authorize Charter Schools within the Geographic Boundaries of the School District of Palm Beach County. 

Description:

For fiscal year 2007-2008 and each fiscal year thereafter, a District School Board may seek to retain exclusive authority to authorize charter schools within the geographic boundaries of the School District.  The District School Board submitted an application in September 2006 for school year 2006-2007.  Exclusive authority is granted on a year-to-year basis.

As per Florida Department of Education, "School districts that submitted resolutions by October 16, 2006, are not required to submit a complete application on or before March 1, 2007."  (See Attachment B)
