Title: Florida Virtual School Franchise

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the purchase of a Florida Virtual School Franchise License effective for the 2007-2008 school year and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all related documents.

Description:

The purchase of the FLVS franchise will provide a mechanism to broaden the district’s opportunities for online course offerings to students.  Online certified teachers will provide the instruction and oversight to the students.

• The franchise will enable the District to offer courses comparable to current curriculum for credit recovery.
• The franchise will enable the District to offer Advanced Placement courses for acceleration. 
• The franchise will enable the district to offer courses at a school where a certified teacher is not available.

Financial Impact:

The financial impact to the operating budget is $120,000.
