Title: P3 Approve the purchase of upgrades for Velocity CNC Light Machines and ProLight Milling Machines.

Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the purchase of upgrades to Velocity CNC Light machines, ProLight Milling machines and Lathes from Forest Scientific.

Description:

P3   Approve the purchase of upgrades to ProLight Milling Machines and Lathes from Forest Scientific.  Also approve the expenditure to Forest Scientific for upgrades to District owned Velocity CNC Control for Light Machines, ProLight Milling Machine and Velocity CNC Control for Light Machines ProLight Lathe.  This equipment is located at 14 schools throughout the district.

The estimated expenditure for the 2008 school year is $60,000.

·        Price includes delivery, setup, installation and in-service training.

·        The upgrade entails replacing 1980’s DOS based CNC controls with a 2007 Velocity CNC windows based control with virtually unlimited memory, removal of old electronic controls and installation of new electronic controls that make up the integral computer.  Software and interfacing to link computer to machine will also be installed.

·        More students will be able to successfully operate the machine due to the intuitive user-friendly windows interface.

·        Acquiring technology resources is allowed per State Board of Education Rule 6A-1.012(10) by direct negotiation with the vendor.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund budget is estimated at $60,000.00.  The source of funds is various school budgets.
