I recommend the School Board approve the continuation of the Multiagency Network for Students with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SEDNET) Project Entitlement Grant in the amount of $133,660, effective July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, and authorize the Superintendent, or designees, to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant activities.
Description: The grant application will be submitted to the Florida Department of Education.
The 2007-2008 school year Project Applications Summary was developed through cooperative planning and agreement among the SEDNET Executive Committee members.
This grant has been in effect for 19 years.
SEDNET priorities include the following goals:
1. Promotes a high quality, comprehensive system of care for children who have, or are at-risk of, severe emotional disturbance.
2. The project works across agencies using research-based best practices that include support for education, access to mental health treatment and access to residential services, when needed.
3. Identifies, coordinates, and links community services to eligible students and their families.
4. Provides specific training, curriculum resources and staff development for school district staff, mental health professionals, parents and other interested community groups and individuals.
5. Coordinates the continued implementation of school-based mental health services for SED students in Palm Beach County.
Financial Impact:
Pending State approval, the financial impact to the Special Revenue-Other Funds budget will be an increase of $133,660. These funds will be allocated within the Exceptional Student Education Department.
