These grants, in compliance with House Rule 1 (HR 1), No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), have been issued under a State directive that allows districts to combine or submit separately the administrative/budgetary processes of several grants. Each grant functions separately at the program level. Title I Part D contains components that address school improvement initiatives, Choice, supplemental services, services for neglected and delinquent students and professional development training. All grants contain monitoring and compliance units to assure audit compliance with State and Federal law.
Title I provides academic assistance to:
• 72,058 students in 112 eligible Title I public schools;
• 400 students in 21 private schools; and
• 854 students in 11 institutions for the delinquent and neglected.
Title I funding must be used for needs identified by schools and may include the following:
• opportunities to develop more highly qualified and effective principals, teachers and paraprofessionals;
• class size reduction;
• technology, including software and hardware;
• supplemental services, such as tutorials, technical assistance and parental involvement strategies;
• tutorial services, including assessment, materials and management from a contracted third party to nonpublic school sites and neglected and delinquent sites; and
• school improvement initiatives in literacy, math and science.
Evaluation for all grant programs will be evidenced through school improvement plans, FCAT scores, AYP results, survey results from public and private schools, and student gains assessed through tutorial pre and post testing.
