Title: T2 Approve the agreement with Palm Beach County to use Palm Tran buses for student transportation Recommendation:
I recommend the approval of the Agreement between Palm Beach County and the School Board of Palm Beach County for Student Transportation. Additionally, I recommend the expenditure of $693,000.00 for the 2007/2008 school year and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all necessary documents.
Description:
· Approve the agreement with Palm Beach County for secondary student transportation for the 2008 through the 2009 school years.
· The original agreement between Palm Beach County and the School Board of Palm Beach County was signed on September 27, 2005 and expires at the end of the 2007 school year.
· The Agreement allows for students eligible for transportation services to be transported on Palm Tran buses.
· The Agreement allows for students, district-wide, who are accepted for admission to the choice programs to have access to public transportation to and from school.
· For the 2005/2006 school year, 1450 eligible secondary students were transported. For the 2006/2007 school year, 1850 eligible secondary students were transported.
· Approximately 2100 students will be commuting to and from school daily on Palm Tran buses for the 2007/2008 school year.
· Expenditures for 2006/2007 school year were $660,000.00.
· The expenditure to Palm Tran through the 2008 school year is estimated at $693,000.00. This includes an increase of 16% to $330.00 for annual passes for the 2008 school year.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Transportation Budget is estimated at $693,000.00.
