Title: Credit Union in Schools Recommendation:
I recommend the School Board adopt a resolution support the request of the Credit Union's request to include the students of the School District in the Credit Union's field of membership.
Description: Spanish River High School has worked collaboratively with the Gold Coast Federal Credit Union (GCFCU) to establish a new program at the school.
The program involves opening a student run office at the school.
The program will encourage financial responsibility among the students at the school.
To move forward with the program, GCFCU will seek approval from the National Credit Union Association to amend their membership to include all students enrolled in Palm Beach County Schools. By association, all parents of those students would also be eligible for membership.
The approval of the National Credit Union Association is dependent upon the approval of the School District.
The Credit Union will provide an ATM to handle cash deposits and withdrawals. The unit will be covered under the Credit Union's insurance and bonding program.
If successful, the program could be duplicated at other schools within the District.
The facility will be available for students and staff but not the general public.
Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact at this time with the exception of utilities needed to operate the ATM and a computer and possibly some minor renovations.
