Recommendation:

  1. The construction of the addition to Belle Glade Elementary School is scheduled to commence SY 2008-09 and be completed by SY 2009-10 according to the draft FY 2008-2012 Five-Year Plan.

  1. The Educational Specification for Belle Glade Elementary School is consistent with the Class Size Reduction (CSR) Facility Lists and CSR generic educational specification proposed to the Board on September 19, 2007.

  1. The “CSR” FISH Capacity of this school design will be 978 for students in grades Pre-Kindergarten to 5.  The school will be designed for a Program Capacity of 681 (Kindergarten-5).  The use of the “Program Capacity” for the construction of the school is consistent with the Charter School District Waiver granted by the Florida Board of Education on January 21, 2003.

  1. The Educational Specification includes additional spaces for the existing ESE, ESOL and Pre-Kindergarten programs.  These new instructional spaces shall accommodate existing classrooms in relocatables.

  1. Although, Belle Glade Elementary does have three (3) existing and it is proposed for two (2) additional new PreK units, the administration has decided to house all the units within the existing building and move other classroom functions to the new addition.  Therefore, the Educational Specification does not include any PreK classrooms.  The Educational Specification does include a new playground area including play equipment for the PreK program.

  1. The Educational Specification reflects the use of grade level grouping to enable implementation of the “school-within-a-school” concepts.

  1. The Educational Specification was reviewed and approved by the Principal.
