Title: CS1 Denial of Charter School Application - Dot's Success Academy

Recommendation:
It is recommended that this application be denied

Description:

Dot's Success Academy proposes to give its students a positive attitude, real-world competence, and a passion for lifelong learning by equipping them with the academic and vocational skills necessary for productive employment.  The program will be provided to students ages 17-20, who are at risk of dropping out of school because of low academic performance in a traditional setting.

The application is reviewed by various departments (i.e. Facilities, Transportation, Accounting, Title I, ESE, etc.).  Each department uses the respective component of the established rubric to assess the application.

Acceptable applications scored at least 136 points or 90% on the rubric.
 
This application received 108 points which equals 71% and was denied by the review board.  The unacceptable areas are as follows:
     Academic Design:  Educational Program
     Academic Design:  Student Assessment
     Governance and Management:  Profile of application group and management team
     Governance and Management:  School Governance and Management:  Length of Contract and Timetable
     Finance and Facilities:  Facilities
     Operations:  Admissions and Registration Plan

Attached is a copy of the rubric for Dot's Success Academy and the Charter School Application Reviewers Matrix.

A copy of the charter application is available for review in the Board Office.
