Title: P4 Approve Award of RFP 06C-002R for Cellular Phone Services

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the award of RFP 06C-002R for Cellular Phones and Services and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all necessary documents.

Description:

P4   Approve the award of RFP 06C-002R for Cellular Phones and Services

·      On December 21, 2005, RFP 06C-002R for Cellular Phones and Services was released.  Three proposals were received.

·      The Evaluation Committee, consisting of District staff, convened and reviewed all responsive proposals.  It was the recommendation of the Committee to award the contract to Verizon Wireless and Sprint.

·      The award to Sprint is to enable existing departments who have push-to-talk only or push-to-talk combo functionality the ability to maintain these services if this is the most productive option for their operations.  The award to Verizon Wireless is for all services outlined and defined in the RFP.

·      The contract will begin February 16, 2006, with the implementation of the new services and will run through February 15, 2009.

·      As a result of the proposal, the District has applied for E-rate reimbursement wherever applicable.

·      Verizon Wireless has been identified by the State of Florida’s Emergency Operations Center as the sole provider for cellular service.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund Budget is estimated at $905,000.   The source of funds is various schools and departments’ operating budgets.
